EMEA Webinar “Blue Carbon frontiers – Financing innovation for the Mediterranean climate shield” completed successfully

The webinar was organised by the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA in collaboration with the Centre Scientifique de Monaco, and took place on Thursday 13th June 2024, 15:00-16:30 CET, on Zoom.

The “Blue Carbon Frontiers” panel was a groundbreaking assembly of global experts poised to unravel the intricate dynamics of the Mediterranean as a pivotal carbon sink, focusing on the synergies between ecological science, technological innovation, finance, and policy-making. The webinar aimed to illuminate the path toward sustainable engagement with the Mediterranean’s unique blue carbon ecosystems—seagrasses, salt marshes, and mangroves—that sequester carbon dioxide, thereby playing a crucial role in mitigating climate change.

Closing the Webinar EMEA President Prof. Rym Ayadi highlighted: “Valuing and protecting the Mediterranean’s unique ecosystems through blue carbon initiatives is not just an environmental imperative but a vital investment in our shared future.

By adapting economic incentives to our global climate goal, pioneering innovative financing solutions, we can harness the power of nature to combat climate change, safeguard biodiversity, and ensure sustainable livelihoods for generations to come.

Together, we have the opportunity to transform the Mediterranean into a resilient climate shield, showcasing the profound impact of collaboration and innovation in addressing global challenges.”
