EMEA Researcher, Dr. Ivan Hajdukovic, recently concluded a research visit as a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge from 18 to 29 March 2024. During his research visit Ivan collaborated with both the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (CEENRG) and the Conservation Research Institute (CRI). He worked within the department on research areas of common interest related to environmental and sustainability issues, such as energy, climate change, agroforestry and natural resource use.
During his tenure, Ivan focused on the ReForest project (2022-2026), funded by the European Union (Project Nr. 101060635). The project aims to enhance the uptake of agroforestry in Europe by fostering innovation, knowledge exchange, and providing new solutions to enable farmers to achieve multiple objectives such as food production, carbon sequestration and biodiversity enhancement. EMEA leads Work Package (WP5) on finance and policy and is responsible for the project’s co-creation and capitalisation strategy and actions under WP1.
Ivan worked towards the completion of three key deliverables: “M3 Interim assessment and network impact report”, “D5.2 Agroforestry sector finance and policy mapping report 2” and “D5.4 Sustainable financing scheme for agroforestry”. At the same time, he made significant progress on an empirical research paper examining the determinants of energy and resource productivity in a group of developed and developing countries.
The research visit at the Department of Land Economy provided an exceptional opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaborative synergies between EMEA and the Department’s members. This collaborative environment fostered fruitful discussions and enabled the exploration of innovative approaches to address pressing socio-economic, environmental and sustainability challenges.
As a complement to his visit, Ivan was also invited to present the ReForest project and his research paper entitled “Sustainable financing scheme for agroforestry” at the joint Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI)/CEENRG seminar, to be held at the University of Cambridge on April 24th, 2024.
Looking ahead, Ivan will begin a new two-month research visit at the University College London (UCL) Energy Institute of the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources, starting in April 2024.
