Prof. Rym Ayadi, President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA and Chair of the Banking Stakeholders Group (BSG) of the European Banking Authority (EBA), participated at the High-Level Conference on “Affordable Housing Finance for Low-Income Groups: Challenges and Policies”, which took place in Regency Tunis Hotel, Tunisia, on 21-22 June 2023.
The conference was organised by the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) in collaboration with the Central Bank of Tunisia and opened with welcoming addresses by Najla Bouden Romdhane, Head of the Government of Tunisia, Marouane El Abassi, Governor, Central Bank of Tunisia, and Abdulrahman Al Hamidy, Director General Chairman of the Board, Arab Monetary Fund (AMF).
Prof. Ayadi participated in the session “Regulating and supervising stable mortgage markets”. The session discussed the pre-conditions to set up a safe and effective affordable mortgage financial market, including legal and regulatory ones, in the post-subprime era, how do new regulations impact funding, and what the Basel III Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR) means for lenders along with the future role of securitization.
Prof Ayadi highlighted: “Enhancing access to Safe and affordable housing is essential and commendable but the most difficult is how to achieve it while fulfilling the policy objectives of inclusion, sustainability, stability and overall wellbeing and tradeoffs these objectives entail”.
The session was moderated by Nabil Ladhari, Deputy Head of Financial Stability Department, Central Bank of Tunisia and the session discusants included Simon Walley, Lead Financial Sector Specialist, World Bank, Nabil Felfel, Director General of the Banking Supervision, Central Bank of Tunisia, and Mehdi Ben Mustapha, Head of the Department of Communication and Financial Education and Documentation, Financial Market Authority, Tunisia.
