EMEA President Prof. Rym Ayadi participates at the Landmark Conference on Sustainable Finance in Memory of Professor Clas Wihlborg

The President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, professor at the Bayes Business School, City University of London and member of European Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee participated at the Landmark Conference on Sustainable Finance in Memory of professor Clas Wihlborg which took place on 13-14 June 2022 at Marstrands Havshotell, Marstrand. The event was organised by the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN), and it was sponsored by the Centre for Finance at University of Gothenburg and University West.

Prof. Ayadi participated at the session “Sustainable Finance And Financial Stability” where she presented the Statement number 48 of the European Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee. She emphasised the importance to act decisively to complete the EU construction with the fiscal union and the banking union with the European Deposit Insurance Scheme to ensure fiscal and financial sustainability in the Euro Zone. Prof Ayadi highly regarded Professor Clas Wihlborg who passed away recently “Clas was a dear friend and an inspiring scholar. We will miss him.”

The session was chaired by Prof. Harald Benink, School of Economics and Management, Tilburg University and the panel included Prof Ingo Walter, Stern School of Business, NYU, Associate professor Jens Forssbaeck, Lund University School of Economics and Management and Adjunct professor Hans T Söderström, Stockholm School of Economics, and former head of SNS.

The Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN) – a private and independent foundation conducting economic research focusing on the Swedish business sector. The Institute was founded in 1939 by the Federation of Swedish Industry (SI) and the Swedish Employers’ Confederation (SAF) to encourage research on economic and social issues steeped in significance for industrial development.

Clas Wihlborg, Professor of Finance and International Business at Chapman University and honorary doctor at LUSEM has recently passed away, at the age of 73.

He joined the Argyros School faculty at Chapman University in 2008 and held Fletcher Jones Chair in International Business. He completed his Ph.D. in Economics at Princeton University and has been a prolific author in International Finance, Institutions, and Law and Economics.

He has held faculty positions in Finance and International Business at New York University, University of Southern California, Göteborg University in Sweden, University West in Sweden (Högskolan Väst), and the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark, where he was Director for the Center for Law, Economics and Financial Institutions (LEFIC). Clas served on the European Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). He also holds an Honorary Doctorate from Lund University in Sweden.

At the Argyros School, Clas founded the Chapman Conference on Money and Finance and co-founded and organized for several years the MBA Travel Course Business in Scandinavia. Clas served as the FMA European Conference Program Co-Chair in 2002.
