The President of EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, Professor at The Bayes Business School, participated at the Advocacy Meeting with the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission. The meeting took place at the first day of the EMGN workshop at the GIZ Representative Office in Brussels on 17 October 2022.
EMGN representatives included Hayder Al-Bagdadi GIZ Head of the Project Financial Inclusion in the MENA Region, Ms Nagla Bahr Managing Director of Credit Guarantee Company (Egypt), and Roger Albinyana. Managing Director of the European Institute of the Mediterranean – IEMED.
The EMGN representatives presented the Network to Mr. Cyril DeWayne, Programme Manager for Energy, Blending and Guarantees – NEAR B2 – Regional Cooperation Neighbourhood South, Economic Investment Plan, and to Mr. Davide Loriggiola, Programme Officer – NEAR A5 – IFIs relations and Investments: Blended Finance and EU Guarantees. They also discussed the role of guarantees and blending in the European Neighbourhood Policy towards the Neighbourhood South and exchanged views on how the EC and EMGN could have closer collaboration.
The second day of the EMGN Workshop, on 18 October 2022, was dedicated to the internal sustainability of the Network. EMGN representatives discussed ownership, financial and governance issues. The discussion was moderated by Roger Albinyana (IEMED) and Hayder Al-Bagdadi (GIZ).
The Euro-Mediterranean Guarantee Network – EMGN seeks to alleviate the region’s structural constraints for MSMEs to access to finance by gathering guarantee schemes active in the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean. EMGN is promoted by the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA), the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
