EMEA President Prof. Rym Ayadi moderates discussion on the key findings from the 2023 EBA EU-wide stress tests, organised by SUERF

EMEA President. Prof. Rym Ayadi, Professor at Bayes Business School, City University of London, Chair of the Banking Stakeholders Group (BSG) of the European Banking Authority (EBA), SUERF Fellow and Senior CEPS Advisor moderated the panel discussion at the SUERF-Baffin Bocconi e-lecture “Key findings from the 2023 EBA EU-wide stress tests”, which took place online on 31 August 2023.

The event started with a welcome address by Ernest Gnan, Secretary General- SUERF and the presentation of the 2023 EBA EU-wide stress tests results by Jacob Gyntelberg, Director of Economic and Risk Analysis I European Banking Authority (EBA).

The panel of discussants included Christoffer Kok, Head of Banking Supervision, Stress Test Experts Division I ECB, Nicolas Charnay, Sector Lead for European banks I S&P Global Ratings, and Marc Irubetagoyena, Head of Group Stress Testing and Financial Simulations I BNP Paribas.

Prof Ayadi highlighted that “stress tests are useful tools for supervision to test whether extreme conditions are faced by EU banks. But it should not give a false sense of safety. The exercises largely depends on supervisory choices that impact methodologies, parameters used and results.”
