EMEA President Prof. Rym Ayadi delivers speech on “Investment Gaps and Economic Outlook the Mediterranean Region” at MedaWeek Barcelona 2024

The Founder and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, was the first speaker of MedaWeek Barcelona 2024 on 29 October 2024. At the first session of MedaWeek 2024, entitled “Mediterranean Annual Economic Report”, which was organised in collaboration with EMEA, Prof. Ayadi presentation was on the “Investment Gaps and Economic Outlook in an era of Transitions in the Mediterranean Region”. In her presentation Prof. Rym Ayadi underlined:

“Mediterranean’s challenges are formidable, but not insurmountable. To realize the Mediterranean’s potential, we must bridge critical investment gaps in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and brain capital. Addressing these needs will transform our shared challenges—climate vulnerability, economic instability, and digital inequity—into pathways for resilience and growth. This journey calls for bold, collaborative action and strategic partnerships making the region a model of sustainable and inclusive progress for future generations.”

MedaWeek2024, the Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders, is a major event for the economical development of the Mediterranean region. It is jointly organized by the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry ASCAME and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation Cambra de Barcelona, with the collaboration of Generalitat de Catalunya and prominent Euro-Mediterranean organizations.

MedaWeek 2024 focuses on fostering connectivity and cooperation and how to enhance global competitiveness in both shores of the Mediterranean. The event started with welcome addresses by Salvador Illa Roca, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Anwar Zibaoui, General Coordinator of ASCAME, Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean and Miquel Rodriguez Planas, Gerent de Promoció Econòmica, Barcelona City Council.
