EMEA participation at IWFSAS 2022

The International Workshop on Financial System Architecture and Stability “IWFSAS 2022: Re-Thinking Risk Management During Times of Paradigm Shifts – Implications for Financial Markets and Institutions”” took place at Bayes Business School, City, University of London, on 05 – 06 September 2022.

The event was hosted by Bayes Business School – formerly Cass, in collaboration with the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA and the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. Keynote Speakers of the workshop were Dr Alison Scott – Director, Bank of England and Prof. Marcin Kacperczyk – Professor of Finance, Imperial College London and CEPR.

Prof. Rym Ayadi, Professor at The Bayes Business School & President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, chaired the 5th session of the workshop on06 September 2022. The session discussed papers about cyberattacks on small banks and cross-subsidization in the credit card market.

Furthermore, Dr Doriana Cucinelli, Assistant Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of Parma and EMEA Research Fellow, presented the paper “The origin of crises and systemic risk. Do Bank Business Models Matter?”, co-authored with Prof Rym Ayadi, Prof Paola Bongini, and Prof Barbara Casu.

Prof. Barbara Casu, Professor of Banking and Finance at the Bayes Business School – formerly Cass & Director of the Centre for Banking Research as well as member of the EMEA expert panel highlighted “Learning how to recognise and manage novel risks will help financial institutions to cope during times of paradigm change”.

From her side Prof. Rym Ayadi underlined that ” The frequency of tail risks is increasing, and models are unable to capture them. Innovative thinking beyond traditional policy paradigms is needed”.

The International Workshop on Financial System Architecture and Stability (IWFSAS) provides a forum for academic researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to discuss current issues related to the structure and design of financial systems and their impact on macro-financial stability and sustainable economic development.
