As part of the UN Science Summit at the 79th United Nations General Assembly and Summit for the Future, Rice University’s Baker Institute Center for Health and Bioscience, the California Mental Health Services Oversight Accountability Commission, the Brain Capital Alliance, the Euro-Mediterranean Economists’ Association EMEA, BRAIN, HKS, NeuroCentury and other organisations are convening a plenary conference under the title “The Brain Economy Summit” focused on the new concept of the Brain Economy.

The President and Founder of EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, Professor at Bayes Business School, City University of London, co-founder of the Brain Capital Alliance, along EMEA Advisors, Dr. Harris Eyre, Lead of Neuro-Policy and Senior Fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, Executive Director, Brain Capital Alliance, and Pawel Swieboda, Founder of Neurocentury and co-founder of the Brain Capital Alliance will be among the high level speakers of the Brain Economy Summit.

EMEA President, Prof. Rym Ayadi has underlined that, “A global strategy centered on brain health and emphasizing the brain economy has the potential to be profoundly transformative, setting the stage for a well-being economy where cognitive and emotional resilience drive sustainable growth, innovation, and equitable prosperity for all.”

EMEA fully supports the mission of the Brain Capital Alliance, having played a key role at UNGA78, where Prof. Ayadi delivered the keynote and launched the Brain Capital Dashboard.

The Brain Capital Dashboard seeks to measure and monitor the concept of Brain Capital. To build the dashboard, novel indicators were extracted from a wide range of data sources under the banner of three pillars: Brain Capital Drivers, Brain Health, and Brain Skills. The Brain Capital concept and dashboard help provide a better understanding of the social and economic value that can be derived through fueling and funding more equitable mental health policies.

In the year since UNGA78, EMEA has hosted six webinars focused on Brain Capital, covering topics like mental health innovation, Africa’s role in the Brain Economy, and the importance of Brain Health for economic transitions:

Furthermore on 22 July 2024 EMEA co-ogranised the Scientific Technical Meeting of the African High-Level Science Summit on Brain Economy, Brain Health & Brain Capital in Cameroon on which the Yaoundé Declaration was launched.

The “Brain Economy Summit,” part of the UNGA79 Science Summit, seeks to introduce a transformative societal approach to fostering brain capital—an essential asset that enhances both brain health and cognitive skills amidst rapid technological advancements.

The summit will be held at the Steelcase Worklife Center, 4 Columbus Circle, New York, USA, on 18 September 2024.
