EMEA co-authors and co-signs call to Canada G7 2025 to recognize the critical importance of the brain economy

The President of EMEA Prof. Rym Ayadi, CEPS Senior Fellow and co-founder of the Brain Capital Alliance, and EMEA Advisors Dr. Harris Eyre, Lead and Senior Fellow in Neuro-Policy at Rice University Baker Institute for Public Policy and Executive Director of Brain Capital Alliance, and Dr. William Hynes, Senior Climate Change Economist at the World Bank, are among the co-authors and signatories of the “Canada 2025 G7 Brain Economy Summit: Call to Action.” The call was published by the Canadian Science Policy Centre in its editorial on 24 February 2025.

The purpose of the call is to formally recognize the critical importance of the brain economy for economic health and prosperity, urging Canada to consider this issue under its Finance and other tracks during its 2025 G7 Presidency. The co-authors and signatories emphasize in the concept note that the future of economic growth depends on optimizing brain capital—a form of human capital that integrates brain health with cognitive, emotional, and social skills, which drive innovation, productivity, and resilience.

Currently, underinvestment in brain health is leaving trillions in economic potential untapped. Therefore, the G7 must take action to reverse the decline in brain health and skills worldwide, positioning brain capital as a core pillar of economic growth, workforce resilience, and global competitiveness. The call urges the G7 to:

  1. Launch a Brain Economy Working Group to integrate brain health into labor and finance policy.
  2. Host the first-ever G7 Brain Economy Summit to drive global action.
  3. Engage the private sector in brain health investments.

As a co-founder of the Brain Capital Alliance, EMEA strongly supports the “Canada 2025 G7 Brain Economy Summit: Call to Action.” Notably, on 19 September 2023, the President of EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, presented at the Science Summit of the 78th United Nations General Assembly the Global Brain Capital Dashboard, developed by the OECD NIPI, Brain Capital Alliance, the EMEA team, and the Global Brain Capital Dashboard Working Group.
