EMEA researcher Dr Yeganeh Forouheshfar participated in the Second Annual KAS-MEDAC Alumni Circle conference “Euro-Mediterranean Relations in Changing Times – Shifting Alliances and New Dynamics”, which took place from October 9th to October 11th, 2023. The event was co-organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) and the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) at the University of Malta.
The main goals of the event were to explore how external actors influence the region, examine economic development, and address the impact of migration and mobility on fostering new approaches to cooperation between European and Southern Mediterranean countries.
Dr. Forouheshfar participated in the second panel, titled “Economic Developments and the Role of External Actors.” During her presentation, she discussed the EU’s role in supporting economic actors in the region, particularly in the context of Tunisia and IMF negotiations. She highlighted the current economic challenges facing Tunisia and the reasons behind the country’s resilience in accepting deals proposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union (EU).
Dr. Forouheshfar emphasized the critical importance of promoting the private sector and creating job opportunities for the youth in Tunisia. Additionally, she proposed new financing mechanisms linked to guarantees to enhance access to finance for entrepreneurs in the country.
