The Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics publish one of the papers that won the EMNES CfP Awards 2021

We are very happy to announce that the paper “Human development and decentralization: The importance of public health expenditure”, one of the 3 papers that won the EMNES Call for Paper Awards 2021, has been published in the Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics.

The paper has been co-authored by Ronald Miranda-Lescano (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain), Leonel Muinelo-Gallo Universidad de la República) and Oriol Roca-Sagalés (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). The authors will receive 2,000 Euros of research budget in order to continue their research. The award is funded by the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA.

The paper empirically analyses the impact of central and subnational government spending on human development in a sample of 57 developed and developing countries over the period 2000–18. Specifically, it focuses on the effects of health and education public expenditure on the Human Development Index (HDI) and its dimensions (life expectancy, education, and income).

The paper is available at https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/apce.12373
