EMEA Advisor, Harris Eyre, speaks at the European Health Forum Gastein

Harris Eyre, lead and senior fellow in neuro-policy with Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public policy and member of the EMEA Advisory Board, was invited by the European Academy of Neurology and the European Brain Council to speak and engage at the recent European Health Forum Gastein, on 25 September 2024.

The session, titled “Promoting brain health for everyone: Taking a holistic approach to neurological & mental health,” delved into critical issues surrounding brain health. Dr Eyre shared the panel with esteemed colleagues: Paul Boon, Chair of the Brain Health Mission, Martina Rojnic Kuzman from the European Psychiatric Association, Mika Martikainen, Chair of the Finnish Brain Council, Elena Moro, President of the European Academy of Neurology, and Frédéric Destrebecq, Executive Director of the European Brain Council.

Eyre noted, “My intervention underscored the vital importance of the brain economy transformation in Europe. This transformation is essential to halt and reverse the loss of brain capital and is crucial for facilitating smooth digital and green transitions. Aligning with the recent European Commission’s Draghi report, the brain economy transformation holds the potential to significantly boost European economic competitiveness. Systemic investing will be key.”. Eyre is also the executive director of the Brain Capital Alliance.

EMEA President Prof. Rym Ayadi highlighted: “The brain economy, focusing on knowledge, creativity, and innovation and mebral well-being can address these concerns by investing in health education, research, and technology. Enhancing digital infrastructure, promoting skills development, and fostering innovative industries would drive sustainable growth. This aligns with the Draghi report’s vision for a competitive and environmentally friendly EU economy. The Draghi report outlined challenges for the European economy, emphasizing sustainable competitiveness, economic security, and fair competition.”

Eyre will further explore the importance of the brain economy transformation for European competitiveness at the upcoming UK Brain Capital Summit to be held October 9 in London, and at the Prada Foundation’s Human Brains event to be held Oct 16 and 17 in Milan.
